Special Mail...

I am unsure if I've made much mention on here as to my relationship with Cason's mother. Whether others judge me on this decision or not is up to them and them alone. I know what is right for me and for us and I have chosen to build a connection between she and I and let God do His work. We have gotten to the point where we are writing each other letters and I send her some pictures occassionally.
She made a mistake, she is paying for it. It is not my job to be part of her punishment, it is not my place to judge her and it is certainly not in me to make her suffer through me. So I have chosen love. We have chosen love. We have 100% forgiven her for what she did. She made a tragic mistake that has effected so many and she will have to live with it forever. She has been unbelievable supportive of Sean and my role in Cason's life. She knows we are his mom and dad and will be forever.
This relationship will be much different than what we have with Tate's birth family of course. First of all, she is incarcerated for several years and that alone makes it different. However, we are not naive to the fact that the situation lends itself to a different type of relationship with her. Even when she is a free woman, we know we may continue communication, but it will be in a much different fashion than the type of communication and relationship we have with Tate's birth parents.
She asked my permission a few weeks ago to write the poem "Legacy of an Adopted Child" in a card for Cason. I absolutely thought it would be fine. It's a beautiful poem. It arrived today in a card she made. We will put it in Cason's time capsule and treasure it forever.
Cason got to see it...
We are so blessed.
God is working miracles here.
LEGACY OF AN ADOPTED CHILD
Once there were two women,
Who barely knew each other.
One is in your heart forever,
The other you’ll call mother.

Two different lives,
Shaped to make yours one.
One became your guiding star,
The other became your sun.

The first gave you life,
And the second taught you how to live it.
The first gave you a need for love,
And the second was there to give it.

One gave you a nationality,
The other gave you a name. One gave you the seed of
talent,
The other gave you an aim.

One gave you emotions,
The other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile,
The other dried your tears.

One gave you a family,
It was what God intended for her to do.
The other prayed for a child,
And God led her straight to you.

And now you ask me
Through your tears,
The age old question through the years.
Heredity or environment…
Which are you a product of?
Neither, my darling… neither,
Just two different kinds of love.

I am so happy for all of you that you get to have a relationship with his birth mother. What an awesome gift you two ladies can give him through this.

I love the poem btw!
