I think they might need a brother...

...call us crazy, but they might be getting one...very soon!
I think MOST of you (if not all of you) know about what I am about to talk about here. We're clearly not very good at keeping things to ourselves. :)
Remember Wesley? Well if not, here he is...
Adorable, right? Oh my, you have no idea until you see him in person! First of all, this picture is a year old, second of all, his personality is something to behold...for real. He is hilarious and outgoing and happy and bubbly and I'm not going to lie, a bit of a stinker! :) All of those parts of his personality make him look even more adorable in person...if that's even possible!
So here's the story on Wesley...the VERY short story.
He has some fairly major medical needs, had a kidney transplant a year ago and is doing great! He is smart and developementally on target for his age...he's 3, a rambunctious 3 year old.
So here's where we come in.
Back in August, we were in PS-MAPP class and to make a long story short, through some discussion in class, we were informed about Wesley. His profile had been posted on the website of children who needed adopted. His case worker was looking for a VERY specific type of family because of Wesley's needs. They wanted a family with one parent who stayed at home (check) and with another parent who was in the medical field (check, check) and a great local support system (check, check, check) and children who were older than Wesley (check, check, check, check). Oh, and they had to live a distance from Iowa City (long story), but still within about an hour. Um, well, that was us to a "T"! Apparently they were finding it difficult to find a family who met all of their criteria. Wonder why!
Long story short (because really, it IS a long story!), we inquired about him, emailed back and forth to his caseworker, made the decision we would pursue adopting him once we were licensed. One problem...there was a delay in our licensing (yup, long story) and there was a deadline of sorts that his caseworker would need us to be licensed by in order for us to be considered. We were worried.
His profile was removed from the website THE DAY BEFORE we submitted our homestudy to his caseworker to be considered for his adoption. We didn't know if it would even be looked at. Then, we got the call about Cason...the next day. That was a stressful time. We didn't want to jeoprodize getting Wesley if we took on Cason. We prayed and discussed and I cried and cried about not knowing what to do. Finally, we made the right decision...we trusted in God to decide and took on Cason. We are so happy we did...we are obviously in love with him!
Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. We certainly hadn't FORGOTTEN about Wesley, but just figured his profile had been off of the website for about 2 months now and we were never contacted so he was probably already placed. Wrong! We got the call that they were considering us as his adoptive family! WHAT?!?!!! Um, we panicked a bit. Again, this time we learned a bit more quickly to let God do the work. We met Wesley a little over a week ago. We fell in love. We want him...forever. We know it's a huge undertaking, we do. We are scared and nervous and anxious and excited of this possibility. We are mostly concerned with how Tate will adjust. We know in the long run, if we get Wesley, he'll be fine...hopefully more than fine. :)
So today was a big day. We interviewed with an "interview panel"...can you say STRESSFUL?!?!!! Ugh...it was. However, every response to all of their questions was completely honest and heartfelt...and every answer we gave just seemed like what they wanted to hear. We don't KNOW that it was, but got great reactions from the panel. It took an hour and a half and it felt like we nailed it. Really, we know this is in God's hands and He will handle the rest. In OUR minds, we are the perfect fit for Wesley, but only God knows if that's true. So now we wait. We were told that we will find out within about 2 weeks if we were selected as his "forever family". Whatever is meant to be will be.
I can say with certaintly (however, I believe God has a sense of humor big time and could be laughing as I type this!) that if we get Wesley, this would be it for us in the children category!
3 boys - ages 1, 3 and 5, and two of them with special needs.
Yup, we'd be done...happily done. :)
